St. Mary’s Church, Lymm, nearby Lymm Dam was in a state of disrepair by the middle of the 1800s so the Leigh family commissioned the noted Newcastle architect John Dobson to renovate it. The 1521 tower was preserved and raised, though the requirement for additional stonework rendered the tower being renovated in 1887.
