Canons Park is an area in north west London, in the borough of Harrow. It is between Stanmore and Edgware, and north of Kenton. It has its own tube station, and is on the Jubilee line. One of the nearest railway stations is Harrow & Wealdstone, and Canons Park is about 30 minutes away from Luton Airport. In mediaeval times, Canons Park was owned by the monks of St Bartholomew. It remained in their possession until the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, when it was sold to a private owner. Today, Canons Park is an affluent residential suburb. Canons Park has a large amount of green space. Most of this is eighteenth century landscaped parkland, which has the same name as the area. The park contains a number of listed buildings, and is a Grade II Historic Landscape. It covers over 17 hectares, and has wooded and open areas. The park has a range of features, including a walled garden, a green gym, an adventure playground and a cafe. A community group runs park work days and bird watching walks throughout the year. Canons Park has several historic buildings. One of these is St Lawrence’s Church. The church tower dates back to the 14th century, but most of the building was built in the 1700s. It contains a number of paintings and original woodwork. It is an Anglican church and sits opposite the park.
