Honiton is a market town and civil parish in East Devon. It is positioned near the River Otter, and is roughly 17 miles (27 kilometres) north east of Exeter in the county of Devon. The town also ended up being known for its pottery. Honiton is host to the yearly Honiton Agricultural Show, a traditional event dating back to 1890. The Hot Pennies ceremony occurs yearly on the first Tuesday after 19 July in the High Street of the town, and dates back to the reign of King Stephen.
