St. Mary’s Church, Lymm, nearby Lymm Dam was in a state of disrepair by the middle of the 1800s so the Leigh family commissioned the noted Newcastle designer John Dobson to rebuild it. The 1521 tower was kept and raised, although the demand for added stonework rendered the tower being reconstructioned in 1887.
