Camden Town was named after the 1st Earl of Camden, Charles Pratt. He owned a manor in the area, and in 1791 began granting leases for houses to be built in the grounds. The Regent’s Canal was built through Camden in 1816, which brought industry to the area. Today, Camden Town is known for its markets.
